WebThe Gosbecks site has a complex history of use stretching from the pre-Roman Iron Age through to the C4 AD. Only limited excavation has taken place, mainly in the central area but the archaeology has been identified and interpreted on the basis of an excellent series of aerial photographs, further data being provided by stray and excavated finds. WebThe Romano-British theatre lies on the eastern edge of a 30 acre area which was covered in the Roman period by numerous buildings, the large Gosbecks theatre standing within its own temenos. It is 125 yards south of the temple. The cavea today is visible as a roughly D-shaped mound 4.5ft high with marked depressions over the orchestra and entrance.
